"Understanding why people suffer, how they change, and how to help them live more satisfying and gratifying lives is a fascinating, huge, and important undertaking."
-John Sommers-Flanagan and Rita Sommers-Flanagan
"When a person realizes he has been deeply heard, his eyes moisten. I think in some real sense he is weeping for joy."
-Carl Rogers
"Everything can be taken from a man, but the last of the human freedoms: to choose on'es attitudes in any given set of circumstances."
-Viktor Frankl
At Soileau Partners Psychotherapy, we specialize in providing depth treatment influenced by Jung, Winnicott, Adlerian, Fromm, Kohut, McWilliams, Shedler, Benjamin, and Ogden. This depth approach pulls from the following theoretical lenses:
Individuals experiencing repeated failures brought about by self-destructive behavior patterns often seek out help to address them. Others come because of how they are; their character substantially limits their freedom and pleasures. Still, many want to definitively resolve psychological problems that were only temporarily or partially resolved by other forms of treatment.
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis rely on collaboration, in which the patient and therapist explore unconscious feelings, thoughts, and conflicts through talk. The frequency of sessions for psychotherapy is typically one to two times a week for psychotherapy and two to four times a week for psychoanalysis. During psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, the patient can sit upright opposite the therapist or lie down on the couch.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis use free association to emphasize the unconscious and the centrality of the patient-therapist relationship. This treatment is especially suited for those who need to get to the root of long-term problems and patterns that continually crop up and get in the way of living a fulfilled life.
Our psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis for individuals can help people with various psychological problems, including phobias, obsessions, compulsions, anxiety, depression, sexual dysfunctions, personality disorders, and traumatic injuries.

"Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties."
-Erich Fromm
"Taking in and coping with frustrating experiences sets up personality patterns that should mature at each developmental stage, but sometimes they get stuck instead of shifting to meet new challenges. So children and adults can feel held back, frightened, inadequate, anxious, sad, lost, and lonely. Psychoanalysis and psychotherapy reach in, unlock the logjams left over from the early years, and open the personality to new learning and new relationships."
-David E. Scharff, M.D. & Jill Savege Scharff, M.D.
"Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is an effective, evidence-based treatment rooted in psychoanalytic principles; this technique is helpful for various mental health concerns. It is especially helpful for problems or concerns that don't respond to other therapeutic modalities, therapeutic interventions, or medications alone. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy has also been effective for children, adolescents, and adults, providing relief from distressing symptoms and emotional suffering and leading to deep and long-lasting changes."
-American Psychoanalytic Association
"Psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapy refers to a range of treatments based on psychoanalytic concepts and methods that involve less frequent meetings and may be considerably briefer than psychoanalysis proper. Session frequency is typically once or twice weekly, and the treatment may be time-limited or open-ended. The essence of psychodynamic therapy is exploring those aspects of self that are not fully known, especially as they are manifested and potentially influenced in the therapy relationship."
-Jonathan Shedler, PhD
